Zika Virus: The University of Florida to initiate new research program

The institute of University of Florida will initiate a new research program which will be focused on stopping diseases like Zika virus from becoming widespread in the United States of America.

The university officials claim that the Southeast Regional Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Disease’s Gateway Program was funded and supported by a $10 million grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The proposed grant is part of almost $184 million in Zika funding the CDC is granting to universities and state and regional governments.

The institute of University of Florida infectious disease expert Rhoel Dinglasan will lead the program. The researchers from the institutes of University of Miami, Florida International University and the University of South Florida also will participate.

In a statement, officials claimed that a priority will be training to deal a shortage of workers and employees in public health entomology and impending retirements among the mosquito control managers.
