In proving Cigna’s commitment to the NHL’s Every Save Counts™ campaign of National Hockey League, the Cigna Foundation donated $100,000 to the National Hockey League Foundation in support of Hockey Fights Cancer™ as part of the NHL’s continual effort to support and raise awareness for national and local agencies engaged in cancer care and research.
The donation of Cigna Foundation represents a dollar-for-dollar match of fan donations online of $25 or more in respect of the Hockey Fights Cancer™ program, and one dollar for every save made during the time period of 2016-17 season, involving the Stanley Cup® Playoffs and Stanley Cup® Final, up to $100,000.
Cigna declared earlier this year that it had signed on as the Official Health Insurance Provider of the National Hockey League® (NHL®) in the U.S. and as the Presenting Sponsor of the NHL’s Every Save Counts™ campaign. The partnership deepens the NHL’s relationship with Cigna, the League’s benefits provider for the past nineteen years.
“As a global health service company, mission of Cigna is to assist customers and communities to make better their health, well-being and sense of security. We share a passion with the NHL to improve health, stop and treat cancer, and save lives,” claimed Mike Triplett, president of U.S. markets for Cigna.
Hockey Fights Cancer™ is a charitable initiative discovered in the month of December 1998 by the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association, and is also a program of the NHL’s U.S. and Canadian charitable foundations. It is supported by players, NHL member clubs, NHL alumni, the NHL Officials’ Association, professional hockey athletic trainers and equipment managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America.
To date, through the Hockey Fights Cancer™ initiative, the NHL’s U.S. and Canadian charitable foundations, NHL supporters and fans have donated $ 18 million to support national and regional cancer research institutions, children’s hospitals, player charities and local cancer agencies.
